The Sirius Star technology installation project was a short, critical organisational-wide project to prepare the terminal for a new shipping service delivering a container increase of 20%. I led the sector for technology system and hardware installations.

An important and successful contract win generated a heavily constrained project schedule that included the expansion of an existing reefer monitoring system, vehicle connectivity, yard and driver management systems and GPS hardware on new plant. Three new full container handlers (FCH) were procured by the business, I led all technology installations including testing and commissioning.

Technology procurement has a standard 8-12week lead time in New Zealand, with a go-live in six week my team and I reached out through our connections, rearranged other project installations and prioritised hardware required for day one. Strong relationships and connections to talented individuals ensured we were successful with meeting a demanding schedule.

The existing reefer monitoring system (Reefer Runner) integrates with the terminal operating system (TOS) and required significant process analysis, configuration and testing. An extension of vehicle type and machine configuration was required for the plant management system (Terminal Tracker). Working with the operational team, sufficient process changes were established in time, with further development work continuing post go-live. I managed the installation of CCTV including H&S processes in the operational space increasing visibility and operational control of the area.

This project involved every area of the business and I’m proud to have supported the team on such a successful and challenging project.
