Are you really advancing your career when you operate in an over capacity state? Are you getting the best from your life when you’re tired all the time?
There’s no doubt about it, pressure can be good, deadlines effective and hard work rewarding but the issue is, it’s never-ending. Focus for a moment, think back over the past three months and acknowledge how many moments you’ve had to truly stop, recover and re-charge… fully?
If there hasn’t been at least three, change is needed. Stop the excuses. Seriously, stop the excuses. They will not save you. No one is coming to rescue you. People speak about their busyness in the desperate hope that someone will rescue them. No one is coming.
Each and every one of us needs to save ourselves using courage and vulnerability.
Tony Crabbe writes in his book ‘Busy’ it’s a fallacy to believe the busyness will end, it won’t. Technology, machinery and vast learnings in knowledge aren’t making us work less, quite the opposite in fact. It’s unsustainable commercially, draining professionally, depressing personally. It’s not much fun. Stop justifying busy.
Because your brain is probably tired here are some easy wins,
-
- Go for a walk at lunch time, without your device
- Go to the movies or a show
- Exercise without a device
- Experience date night without your mobile
- Slide the Mail bar to OFF on your phone for either the night or the weekend
- Go for a day trip where there isn’t mobile coverage (my favourite)
- Spend time with family or friends and leave the phone in the car
- Book a camping trip
- Go hiking, swimming, biking, skiing, kayaking, gardening… Aka Get outdoors!
Decision fatigue? Write these down and place in a jar – pick one out and go do it!
None of this is hard if we just stop the excuses. For our own sake, and our loved ones.
You’re completely and utterly worth it.
With love, Kristie
