MIDLAND PORT – TECHNOLOGY INSTALLATION
Limited space, road restrictions and continued planned growth saw Lyttelton Port Company purchase a sizable quantity of land in the upcoming commercial Carter development on the outskirts of Rolleston. This new green-fields site would become Midland Port, an inland port for LPC to utilise and customers to benefit from.
Working with the internal PMO and Business Owner I was responsible for establishing the Midland Port – Technology Installation, design and requirements. Delivering fibre to an area not yet established proved difficult, with initial quotes exploding preliminary budgets. Through collaboration and stakeholder engagement we were able to reduce this cost significantly by redesigning the delivery design.
Initially the site was planned with minimal design, however it quickly became unviable and disruptive to continue with this approach. We regularly reviewed the cost-benefit analysis for each deliverable to ensure the benefits and value were able to be realised and the limited budget spent appropriately.
The collaboration and self-organising teams involved in this project made it a delight to be involved in. The design decisions have proved continuously valuable in the years following go-live.
